For the most part, the adaptations of Dr. Seuss' classic stories haven't been all that impressive. Most of them depart so far from the original story, that they almost turn into completely different stories. The animated adaptation of Horton Hears a Who! worked better than the live-action, heavy-make-up adaptations like The Cat in the Hat and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, so I have hope for Universal and Ilumination Entertainment (the groups behind Despicable Me) bringing The Lorax to the big screen in animated form. Now we have a simple, very orange teaser poster featuring the titular character right smack in the middle. In this version of The Lorax, a boy searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world from a greedy entrepreneur as he strips a forest of its stock of Truffula trees to manufacture clothing. Danny DeVito voices The Lorax while supporting voice talent includes Zac Efron, Taylor Swift, Betty White, Rob Riggle and Ed Helms. Despicable Me director Chris Renaud is co-dircting with animator Kyle Balda from a script written by Hop and Horton Hears a Who! screenwriters Ken Daurio and Cinco Paul. Universal is bring The Lorax to theaters on March 2nd, 2012.
